Dodging the Bullet

I had hoped that after four kids, the youngest now nearly 5 1/2, that we had dodged the bullet of strep throat. Today, after three long days and three miserable nights of interrupted sleep, the rapid test confirmed it...Seth is our first casualty to Strep throat. Poor little miserable thing!

Is Strep something kids outgrow? I remember having friends with strep into Luke's age. As far as I know, none of us ever had it as a kid, none of my kids have ever had it either, did you? Some Dr.'s say it can be a genetic weakness/tendency. Hope he feels better. Lots of Ice Cream!

You don't outgrow it, I know adults who've had strep. However, I do think there is a genetic tendency towards it, and once you have it I think you're more likely to have it again. I never had it, but Ryan did, that it how he acquired his kidney problems (glomerulonephritis), from an untreated strep infection. That and Rheumatic fever are possible complications of untreated strep.

Let us know when it's safe to visit!
