Note to Self

Picture this:

I strap all three kids in the car. We drive to the local "do it yourself" car wash. I pull into the bay leaving the car running, it's already 80* and it's only 8AM. I get out of the car, go to the machine and get my quarters. I walk back to the bay, put in my quarters and select high pressure soap. I proceed to lather the car up and wash it down. By now my time is almost up and the machine is beeping at me to add more quarters or it's going to shut off in 16 seconds. I quickly add a few quarters to get me through the rinse process. I'm rushing like a mad woman because I have no more quarters to add, and I need to finish getting all the soap off the car. One side down, one more to go. I round the back of the car, now to the last side, the side of the car that Myles sits on. He is strapped in his seat this time. I'm spraying like crazy when all the sudden I can see this look on his little face, then a little scream. Then I realize what has happened here. He has OPENED his window and I am now spraying off the entire inside of the car and Myles is dripping wet. I quickly stop and start yelling, ahhhhh...

Note to Self: when washing the car while kids are still in the car, mom MUST put power windows on lock so as not to flood the inside of the car!

I'm telling you, I just shouldn't go to the car wash. Every time I have in the last few weeks it hasn't turned out good! Plus now it's been two hole days and my car is covered in little while bits of ash from one of the many fires near our home. GREAT, so glad I washed the outside, and inside of the car.

Escape

So I'm starting to see a pattern to my post'. The last post was about Myles escaping from the crib. This post is about Myles escaping from the HOUSE. I'm not kidding. He can reach, and has now mastered, the deadbolt. He can successfully get the front door deadbolt unlocked. He does it with ease and is quite quick about it. Before I know it he is half way to the street. I can't believe my not quite two year old is causing me so much grief. What is a mother to do?! I guess I need to get a safety latch at the top of the door. I don't know what else to do. He's too smart for his own good!

The end of an era

Today I put Myles in time out, the offense isn't relevant, but he had other ideas. You see time out in our house is in his crib. While I sat on the couch feeding Audrey, I watched as Myles tried to figure out how to CLIMB OUT OF THE CRIB! I know that I have been lucky that he hasn't tried this before now, but really what am I going to do now? It started with him reaching his arm through the bars to see how far away the bed is from the crib. Then he stood up and pulled himself up on the end of the crib. Then the foot was over the rail. Then the other foot on top of the rail. A bit of nervous crying, and he didn't actually get out, but if I had let him try longer I think that he would have. I can't believe it. That means bye-bye long naps where he would play in the crib for and hour( or two). Bye-bye to sleeping in on Saturday mornings(he knows how to open doors). Oh, I really don't want to be in this phase of life. I like putting the children in a particular spot and knowing that when I come back for them they will still be there. Not so anymore! Maybe I should get a lid for the crib!

Fred Flintstone?!

Sorry, the video wouldn't upload, I'll try later.

My friend (thanks Angela), was getting rid of this little car and I knew that I wanted one for Myles in a few months so we took it.  I have seen how much fun my nephews have all had in the very same cars at my moms house.  Myles doesn't have the hang of how to move his feet to make the thing go yet, but it was the first day so I will cut him some slack.  We spent an hour and a half outside the other day going between the car and the tree swing.  It's going to be fun when we can all be outside together.  My landlord gave us a green caterpillar tree swing that is for two.  So as soon as the girls are big enough we can all swing together.  It's really fun for Myles.  He loves being outside and since the weather is good this week it was a perfect time.  We finally did have some winter weather the last couple of weeks, but I think that most of it is over and we are back to springtime beauty.  Gotta love So. Cal.

Tour of California

So I really needed to get that picture of my belly off the front page news!  We had a fun weekend planned for Saturday.  The Tour of California was making the second to last stop, stage 7, in Pasadena this year.  We road the train to Pasadena, took a free shuttle to the Rose Bowl and had a great time eating and watching as the bike racers all came rushing by at about 30 miles an our.  We had a great view and it was very exciting to see all the familiar faces of the men we watch in the Tour de France each year.

Myles was even really interested. When the racers would come by our spot everyone would clap, hoot, and ring their cow bells.  Myles would smile and clap his hands wildly.  It was very cute.  We were lucky to get a spot on the loop.  The end of stage 7 was 5 laps around the Rose Bowl. We were lucky enough to get a spot only 150 M away from the finish line.

Poor Myles missed his nap because of the timing of the race, but he made it through most of the race, only falling asleep in the last lap.

A belated Christmas post

For Christmas 2008 we packed up the car, with the dog and Myles in tow,  and drove to Utah.  The weather wasn't good and I had my doubts that we would even get there, but to my surprise we made it in one piece and in good time.  We left after work one evening and drove through the night so that Myles would sleep the whole way.  A great plan till we arrived in Bountiful the next morning at 7:30 am and Myles was ready to roll, while mommy and daddy were like death warmed over.  I had done most of the driving, not that Bjorn was sleeping, but I just couldn't stay awake any longer.  I ran across the street to Grandma and Papa's house where breakfast was in full swing.  I said hello and dropped the kid off.  Love having grandparents!  After some much needed sleep the days events were well underway and the holiday season was officially upon us.

You have to love the holidays at the Nakaya household.  It starts with Gingerbread house making, cookie icing, playing in the snow, papa shoveling the entire neighborhoods driveways, GREAT food and lot's of it, the adults staying up WAY too late to play games, a Christmas eve pageant with all the little kids in costume and some talents on display, TOO many gifts to count and much much more.  This year the girls all piled in the car the day after Christmas to head Salt Lake to see the Ballet the Nutcracker.  I've done this many times in my life, but none as fun as to be there with my mother, sister, sil's, and niece.  What a fabulous holiday!

Hair cut anyone?!

These pictues are long overdue, but better late than never. Myles got his second haircut and he was making the most rediculous faces. I think the clippers tickled him. So cute, but my baby is gone, he is truely a little boy now.
